This little box (pictured) is a public access defibrillator – a device that can save the lives of people suffering cardiac arrest.
We’re proud to be playing our part in making this vital equipment publicly available, most recently working with the Henry Angell-James Memorial Trust (HAJMT) to fund the installation and upkeep of a defibrillator at our new development at Spring Park, Havant.
This is the second time we have worked with HAJMT in this way, having previously installed a defibrillator at our site in Concorde Park, Segensworth.
HAJMT was set up in memory of Henry Angell-James, 54, who suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on his regular train journey home from Birmingham to Shrewsbury. Donations to the trust go towards buying defibrillators, often known as AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), that are positioned in key locations and registered with The Circuit – the National Defibrillator Network.
There are more than 30,000 cardiac arrests in the UK each year, with a survival rate of just one in 10. Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduce an individual’s survival rate by up to 10%.
If an AED is used within three to five minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates jump from 6% to 74% - so these devices really can mean the difference between life and death.
Our partnership with HAMJT is part of our commitment to communities, creating developments that are of social benefit to the region.
